Activities in Mauritius

The water-sport activities in Mauritius are amongst the best in the World. Primarily,  beaches are the highlight of Mauritius. Coral sand beaches encircling the Mauritius island are a haven for the water sports enthusiast. Apart from water activities, there are plenty of land activities to keep a visitor busy in Mauritius.

Water Sports

Scuba Diving and Snorkeling are very famous in Mauritius. Almost every hotel or resort has a dive center and snorkeling and scuba diving can be arranged at your hotel. There is a well-known site, the “Cathedral” off Flic en Flac on the island’s west coast to enjoy in the best way, outside the hotel. Snorkeling facilities are excellent, especially on the Northern Coast. The best place for diving on Mauritius is  Flic and Flac beach  where the popular diving attraction is the cave known as the Cathedral. Most of the larger hotels on beaches can provide snorkeling equipment (masks, snorkels and fins) on rent

Surfing is best between June and August. Tamarin is the excellent spot for Surfing. Other popular spots are Baie du Cap and Le Morne.

Windsurfing is also very famous sport in Mauritius which can be enjoyed almost everywhere and equipments are available at all major hotels and resorts.

Deep-sea fishing for marlin, sailfish, barracuda, wahoo, tuna and shark can be very enjoyable. The best season for this activity to enjoy is between October and March.

Other Water sports such as  water-skiing, sailing, kayaking also can be enjoyed throughout the island.

Land Sports

Golf is available for the enthusiast at many of the major hotels.  Some of these are 18 hole courses.  Belle Mare Plage is the place to expect world class championship caliber courses. Golf can be very exciting and enjoyable when you want to take a break from lovely beaches of Mauritius.

Cycling is gaining in popularity and can be a  very good way to see the island but be a bit careful on major roads as traffic can be hazardous.
