For this tropical climate, pack lightweight, loose clothing, preferably in comfortable cotton. You’ll need swimwear and a sunhat, too. It’s advisable to bring along a long-sleeved lightweight jacket or cardigan for cool evenings and air-conditioned interiors. If you intend to visit the high plateau , you’ll need warmer sweaters and jackets. Prepare for a tropical rainstorm by packing something waterproof. Besides sandals, a comfortable pair of sturdy, low-heeled walking shoes is indispensable for excursions to the interior. And it wouldn’t be amiss to pack a pair of bathing shoes.\
When to Go :
Apart from the busy Christmas to New Year period, Mauritius doesn't really have a high or low season. The depths of Mauritian 'winter' occur from July to September, when daytime temperatures drop from sticky to balmy. With less rain and humidity, this is one of the choicest times to visit. December through March is the best time for diving, when the waters are at their clearest; June through August is best for surfing; and October through April is excellent for big game fishing, when the large predators feed close to shore.

Mauritius is a densely populated island of around 1.2 million people. It is a plural society where all the ethnic groups present: Hindus, Muslims, Creoles, Chinese and Europeans live in peace and where all the ancestral cultures have been preserved. These features make the island a unique place in the world.
As an indication of the sureness of taste of Mauritians, consider that despite having been under British rule for 150 years, the people have remained quite impermeable to British cuisine! They had the good sense of looking up to Chinese, French and Indian cuisines for inspiration instead! There is also a distinct Indian-Ocean cuisine. Mauritian cuisine is a medley of these cuisines adapted for local availability of vegetables and meats.
